Street boozing restrictions for Fazeley
I’m irritated at the length of time it has taken for my proposal to designate Fazeley, Mile Oak and Bonehill as an Alcohol Control Zone although on the plus side it’s within a stone’s throw now.
I’ve got just one more appearance before Lichfield’s Licensing Panel next week where I will reiterate the case for the public drinking restrictions. Then, the Order, which was agreed in principle when I made the original case five months ago, will be granted. It’s been long winded but should be worth the wait.
The drink related anti social behaviour some parts of Fazeley and Mile Oak suffered from has, I’m told, reduced noticeably over the past six weeks since the planned increase in policing I wrote about three months ago has kicked in. So that’s good news and I’m hopeful the public drinking restriction will help to keep it that way.
The new police commander for Lichfield has been pretty good to his word so far and I’ll be meeting with him again next week to ensure that the booze restrictions are robustly enforced when they become law in December. Thanks again to the local district councillors, Ben Adams and Ian Lewin, for their crucial work in securing evidence via a community survey to back up the proposal.

Typical Tory!!!!!!!
Ban their fun. There just kids. A few dogooders moan and you jump for a few votes. We got enough bans in this police state we don’t want any here. We were all kids once
Mr Ellis
We’ve lived in Mile Oak for over 19 years and it has deteriorated badly over that time. Youths always hanging around, damage to our cars and houses and general yobbish behaviour mainly caused by drinking.
No one in that time has done a thing about it. The Town Council have been disinterested or incapable while Lichfield Council have shown no interest in our area.
The drinking ban you are arranging is exactly what has been needed for years. I’ve read this website for several months now and as far as I can see you decided on this ban 6 months ago.
You say you are ‘irritated’ by the time it has taken you to achieve this ban. Don’t be! I remember reading something in the paper from the Town Council saying they had been trying for a drinks ban for many years. They failed, achieving nothing.
You haven’t failed and you’ve done something which will make a difference for us and our neighbours. Thank you for the work you are doing.
Well done Mr Ellis.
Please keep at it.
